STRING/TENSION CHOICE Thinner strings provide more power and spin but will break more quickly. Thicker strings last longer. More elastic strings are comfortable on the arm but will lose tension more quickly. Stiffer strings can aggravate arm injuries and wont be as powerful though you may get better control. Some players mix 2 types of strings - typically a longer lasting mains string as they normally break first with a more comfortable cross string. Higher tension will produce more control and spin as the ball flattens on impact. However high tension can mean risking arm injury. Lower tension (within the rackets tension range) means more power and comfort but less control. If you are a regular string breaker you might want to try using string savers before switching to a thicker string. Also rackets with denser string patterns (typically 18mains) will have fewer breaks. For descriptions of different strings and unbiased player feedback have a browse on the following website: |
