2002 Club Tournament  July 21

The tournament enjoyed fine weather this year and some excellent tennis. Toby Barton was going for a hat trick, eventually coming away with two trophies - the men's singles and the mixed. Debbie Keat, who recently joined Richmond, won the ladies singles and fought a tough three set match with June Stowell  in the doubles eventually losing in three sets to Ruth Berger and Vanessa Brown.

The men's doubles this year was also a close three sets with Mik Sorboen and Shahin Yasdanbakhsh successfully defending their title against Toby and club coach Paul Livesi. Hugh Thomas' unbeaten run in the men's vets since 1996 with different partners finally ended yesterday with Colin Pow and Jason Squire coming away victorious. The mixed and the junior boys singles were the last matches on playing in glorious evening sunshine. June in her second final partnered Andy Moffat but lost in three sets to Toby and Lisette. Vetches Cherchian won the boys singles.

The jugs of Pimms were appreciated by the spectators and thanks to Andy Jenkins, the organiser, for another successful tournament.
