RLTC Club Tournament July 2005

On a glorious July afternoon a good crowd turned out to see some excellent tennis. In the men's singles, despite some close games, Andrew proved too strong and defeated Morne in straight sets. The latter though did well to reach the finals in his first year at the club and has established himself as a regular first team player.

In the ladies singles Vanessa made up for last years final's defeat by beating her doubles partner June in straight sets. The two teamed up to defend their doubles title.

After some straight set wins the crowd were rewarded with a close men's doubles where defending champions Chris & Mik battled back in the second set having lost the first. They pipped Morne and Shahin in the tiebreak. However some big serve volleying from Morne and solid support from Shahin took them through the final set which they won 6-3.

The mixed and men's vets took place in the late afternoon sunshine where the husband and wife team Ross and Ross battled valiantly against Andrew and his partner Millie Rowe. Andrew and Millie duly picked up their second trophy of the day (Millie won the Girls U-14s earlier).

No finals day would be complete without Colin and our chairman Jason having their photo taken while struggling to hold their Vets trophy, winners' boxes and pints of Guinness at the same time. They beat Tony and Charles in an entertaining final.
